INDIAN SPICES

 

India has been known as the land of spices. The primary function of spices in Indian food is to improve the flavour of the dish. Many dishes such as cloves, coriander, cumin seeds, cinnamon etc.. because of their volatile oil contents, impart various flavour to the food.

Besides enhancing the flavour and aroma of food , spices have a physiological action beneficial to our system.. They act as a stimulus to the digestive system and help digestion in many ways .

Every spices used in the making of curry is a preservative. All have Some antiseptic value and many are carminatives., The therapentic value of spices is well known.

Scientists have recently probed the effects of cloves on the digestion garlic has been accepted in both India and China as one of the treasured spices and medicinal agents . It has been indicated in the treatment of numerous dishes such as hemorrhoids, dermatitis, coughs, abdominal pains loss of appetite.

Ginger tea is user commonly to ease an ailing stomach . Nutmeg is used medicinally to cure diarrhea and headaches. It seems that spices used in the preparation of making curry have some medicinal value.
